Garden Cam
I've got two gardens going-- one at my house, big enough for our own needs through the summer, and another in Head Jeddore, a much bigger plot where I'm hoping to grow enough to sell at the local farmers market. (Click on pictures to make them bigger.)

I've been looking for this place my whole life...

I spent the last four days building a planter for my herb garden. There were the usual issues involving rocks and such....
![]() I'll plant some herbs in coming days. |
![]() I used "dead space" in my side yard, but now have more space for planting than the entire garden was last year. |
![]() There's basil in the basement.... |
Meanwhile, spring is coming to the garden...
![]() The strawberries are a-bloom. |
![]() The asparugus is up to four feet tall in places. |
![]() Broad Beans are up and coming. |
![]() Garlic. |

Things are going nicely on the homefront...
![]() Tulips! |
![]() The asparugus is going bonkers. This is the second year-- we'll be able to pick next year. |
And in Head Jeddore..
![]() The peas are up and running. |
![]() About half the space is planted. |
![]() And the long view. |

I've started something like 1,000 plants down in the basement, under grow lights. Everything is going to schedule:

The allegory of the rock:
I hacked away at it, for days, calling it evil. As an American, though an ex-pat, I find it hard to give up a battle without total victory and humiliation of my opponent, but my back increasingly urged me to find some compromise. Reluctantly, and against every fiber of my militaristic American upbringing, I made peace with the rock. I staked it off, figuring I would lose that portion of the garden.
But that day my compost arrived. I've been working it into the garden, resulting in a general raising of the level of the soil, by maybe five or six inches, including over the offending rock. I won't be able to plant tomatoes there, but there's plenty of soil for lettuce, spinach, even radishes, and the deep root stuff can grow elsewhere in the garden.
Peace and good feelings will reign in the garden. The rock will stay will it is, and I'll reap a bountiful harvest.
![]() At least two and a half feet deep... |
![]() ... and two feet wide. |
![]() But the rock remains, and I've begun to plant. |

![]() I'm doubling the size of last year's garden. |
![]() So far, it's mostly a rock garden. I haven't found the bottom of this one yet, and there are at least two more like it nearby. |
